When hiring a vehicle on Goboony, you're obliged to pay a security deposit. A security deposit is held in a third-party account on behalf of the Advertiser. They have the right to claim evidenced repair costs against it if you cause any damage to their vehicle during your trip.
1. When do I pay the security deposit?
The security deposit is paid along with your final instalment, typically about 3 weeks before the start of the booking. It will be held in a third-party account until the booking is completed. If you make a last-minute booking within 3 weeks of the trip start date, you will pay the hire fee and security deposit in a single instalment.
2. How is the security deposit returned?
The security deposit is held until the booking is completed. If damages occur during your trip and the Advertiser adds the costs to repair these to the booking, the funds for the damages will be released to the Advertiser. Any remaining funds will be returned to you. If no damages occurred during the trip, but the Advertiser doesn't release the security deposit within 3 days, Goboony takes responsibility for releasing the deposit. Payouts are processed on weekdays and typically take 5-10 working days to reach your account. If you paid with a credit card, the deposit will be returned to the same card used to pay the deposit, which may take a few days for your bank to process.
3. How does the process work if damages occur during my trip?
If damage occurs, you and the Advertiser will document the damage together during the handover on the Goform, documenting the damage and acknowledging your liability for the repairs by signing it. It is important that you complete the handover by signing the Goform, and take a photo of the completed Goform before you leave. An incomplete of unsigned Goform does not absolve you of any liability for caused damages. The Advertiser will then add the additional costs to the booking page. You will have up to 5 days to either accept or refuse the costs. If you accept the costs, the corresponding amount will be deducted from your security deposit and transferred to the Advertiser. Any remaining funds will be refunded to your account. Processing the refund typically takes 1-5 working days.
4. How much of the security deposit is kept by the Advertiser in case of damage(s)?
We advise Advertisers to match their security deposit with their insurance excess, enabling any amount above the deposit to be claimed through their hire insurance. If you cause multiple damages exceeding the deposit, you will be liable for the outstanding extra costs.
The deposit is held in a third-party account to create a safe environment, ensuring that any accidental damage can be addressed and necessary repairs or compensation can be made. Please note that while Goboony is here to support you throughout the process, direct communication and resolution between you and the Advertiser are advised. This is often the fastest and most efficient way to handle any issues related to the security deposit and damages.
