In this article, you’ll learn how the security deposit works on Goboony, how to manage additional costs, and what to do in case of damages or extra fees.
What is the security deposit?
The security deposit is an amount the Traveller pays in addition to the hire rate before departure. It serves as a guarantee to cover any additional costs or damages to the vehicle during the hire period. The security deposit amount is usually based on the insurance excess.

What are the additional costs?
Additional costs are any additional costs incurred during a booking that must be covered by the Traveller. These may include:
- Damages to the vehicle (interior or exterior)
- Fuel shortages
- Extra mileage
- Cleaning fees
- Fines incurred during the hire
If, upon return of the vehicle, you and the Traveller notice damages or additional costs,, you may need to block the security deposit and request a refund. To learn how to add and settle additional costs, please check the How can I add and settle additional costs? - FAQ.
Please note:
- The vehicle inspection must be carried out with the Traveller at the time of return, and any damages or additional costs should be accurately recorded in the GoForm.
You have 48 hours from the return date to block the security deposit. If you do not block it within this time frame, it will be automatically released to the Traveller and will no longer be held by Goboony.
