Yes, hire insurance is mandatory when your vehicle is used for what is called "hire and reward". Breakdown cover for the hirer is also required. In addition, you will need to have an existing policy for your own personal use of the vehicle.
What are my insurance options for hiring out?
When new to Goboony, you might be unsure how often you will be hiring out your vehicle. We appreciate that this makes you hesitant to dive into a comprehensive self-drive hire policy and its initial costs.
Goboony has a daily insurance option that you can use to cover your vehicle for peer-to-peer hire. The Goboony Day Insurance is only paid for when your vehicle is actually being hired out and the costs are split between you and the hiring party. The insurance also comes with National Breakdown cover included.
How can I start using this insurance?
When making your listing, you can declare your private insurer and simply opt into the Goboony Day Insurance afterward. When someone books the vehicle, the policy automatically becomes active for the full duration of the booking.
What will it cost me?
To use this insurance, a fixed £15 per day will be deducted from your earnings as an advertiser. The hiring party then pays a variable rate which depends on their driving history and age.
Is my motorhome eligible for the insurance?
Your motorhome is eligible if it is under 20 years old, weighs up to 3500kg, and does not exceed a market value of £65,000. The policy only covers right-hand drive vehicles. You will need to have an existing policy for your own personal use of the vehicle as this policy only covers it whilst out on hire.
My vehicle does not meet these criteria, where can I get insurance?
Don't worry, there are still insurance options available! Simply get in touch and we'll find the best alternative for your motorhome.
Can I get an annual hire policy?
If you intend to hire out full-time, the vehicle is registered with a business, or your vehicle is not eligible for Goboony Day Insurance, there is also the option of taking out an annual policy. For this, we recommend using Alan Boswell. This policy will also cover the owner of the vehicle for personal use. Annual policies are naturally more expensive than the occasional use of a pay-as-you-go option; however, this cost will be earned back within an average of 3.5 weeks of it being out on rental.
Be sure to mention Goboony, as this may reduce your quote.
